Note This is currently just a proposal.
Since CloudStack blown up during Winter 2025 and the general architecture is deemed beyond current syscom's capacity to maintain, we propose to set up a new cloud cluster using more understood and simpler (for current syscom fleet, as of Spring 2025) technologies.
Which includes:
- proxmox as virtualization host
- pyceo for virtual machine lifecycle management (creation, expiry, deletion if no longer a member for long enough)
- NFS for inter-node VM disk exchange
More specifically:
- proxmox will be connected to LDAP for user/group synchronization and authentication
- each user/club will have a dedicated resource pool for resource isolation
- all virtual machine creation/deletion will be done by pyceo, due to proxmox not having resource pool quota
